This week I watched and reviewed the movie, Saving Private
Ryan. I had seen the movie previously last year in Mr. Troutwine’s class
however I didn’t pay attention, so this was basically my first time seeing it.
I really enjoyed the movie as a whole and I would actually put it in my top ten
favorite movies. The movie is about a group of four brothers who all go off to
war. During the war three of the brothers, end up dying and a letter of
condolence is being written to the mother of the Ryan family. The rest of the
movie is about a group of men that try to track down the last brother, James
Ryan, to save him before he would die as well. The movie did a fantastic job of
making the viewer feel very involved in the movie. When watching it I felt like
I was inside the movie. I also noticed there was a lot of high angle film work
in it that made the enemy feel very powerful. There was also a lot of depth,
where there was several big events happening at the same time. Another film
technique I noticed was the over the shoulder. This occurred over the shoulder
of a man on a machine gun which gave the same view the guy on the machine gun
had. All in all I really enjoyed the movie and would give it a 9 out of 10 and
would recommend it to a friend.
