This week I decided to watch the film Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory starring one of my favorite actors, Johnny Depp. The film was
good and I enjoyed it but I can definitely see myself enjoying it more as a
kid. The story involves a mysterious chocolate factory owner who opens his
doors to a select few winners who find a golden ticket in the wrapper of a
candy bar. The winners then are allowed to tour the factory where they find
almost magical aspects to the factory. One by one each winner breaks rules are
eventually asked to leave until just a little boy named Charlie is left. The
whole idea that a factory exists that not only makes every type of candy, but
does so in such a unique way (chocolate rivers etc) is extremely entertaining.
Along with the story itself I think Johnny Depp did a good job as Willy Wonka
and did well morphing himself into this half-crazed owner of this fantasy candy
factory. If he was not in the movie I don’t think I would have enjoyed it
nearly as much. All in all I would give this movie a 7 out of 10. I would
recommend it to a friend but I wouldn’t be overly bearing about it.
