Saving Private Ryan
I had heard amazing things about this movie from everyone I talked to but never had the chance to watch it. I remember watching the first 30 minutes and felt overwhelmed with emotion. From the opening scene on the beaches of Normandy Steven a level of realism that had never been seen before is established. Through Hanks and his soldiers we see the story from the opening battle until the final battle. What Saving Private Ryan does so well is take us through the narrative with people who are questioning the same things we are. Throughout the entire movie I really wondered why the lives of these soldiers should be risked to go find one man and send him home to his mother. This issue is the basis of the story so that the audience can connect to the characters. Soldiers die trying to rescue this one man and we are left wondering if this mission is in any way worth it. But in the end we are given an answer, as the battle for the bridge (end of film) could not have been won if the soilders weren't there. The cinematography is gorgeous and every shot is made to intrigue the audience and bring character to the film. I would rate this movie a 9.5/10 because it is the best war movie I have ever seen!
