This week I watched the Oscar nominated film, American
Sniper. The story is about a young man named Chris Kyle who joins the army and becomes
America’s greatest sniper. He had one hundred and sixty confirmed kills and two
hundred and fifty five claimed kills. The movie did a fantastic job of making
the viewer feel like they are in the war. There was also great film work and that’s
why it was nominated for best picture. Clint Eastwood used several film
techniques that I picked up on such as camera height. There were many scenes
where the full shot was not exposed and focused on a specific section of the
body. Dramatic angle was also used to make Chris Kyle seem more powerful with
an upward angle. POV was used while looking through the scope of the sniper.
There was also over the shoulder film techniques throughout the film. The
central theme of the movie revolved around a sense of good vs evil, with the
Americans, led by Chris Kyle, as the good side and Iraq being the evil side. I
loved the film and would give it a 9 out of 10 and would highly recommend it to
a friend.
