Love the Coopers (Comedy)

I have to say I made the mistake of not asking for a recommendation for the genre of comedy. I had absolutely no idea what film to what. So what did I do you ask, I went to movies on demand of course finding a random movie under “comedy.” The movie I happened upon was called Love the Coopers. I had seen commercials for this around Christmas time and I have to say it did look like something that would amuse me. I expected this movie to be about some crazy family and what their “struggle” would be around Christmas time. I was right, but there was more than just funny scenes to this movie. I am not sure what genre I would put this movie under because it would not be total comedy. Of course there are very funny parts in the movie such as an old aunt with dementia who never fails to make the audience laugh. But then there is also the over confident but insecure sister who just happens to fall in love with an equally but oppositely funny man. And of course the rest of the family comes with their own issues that correlate to the corruption of Christmas dinner. The comedy comes in times of two teenagers hopelessly “in love” unable to kiss correctly and the little girl who tells everyone they’re a (not so nice word). These parts of the movie allow me to see why it is under the genre of comedy. However, seriousness comes along as well especially when the corruption of the family is at its peak and the family finds their way to fixing what is so broken. My mom watched this movie with me and while we were talking about how a lot of scenes were sad or sentimental I described the movie as a “comedy with feels.” Love the Coopers gives the audience a couple of tears (if your overly emotional) along with a good laugh. Throughout the movie there were parts that confused me to where I was not sure if I was going to like it or now. But I have to be honest I did thoroughly enjoy this movie. Rating: 7/10
