Stalag 17
8/10
Overall I would have to say this ranks as one of my new favorite old war movie classics. In the past I had seen clips of it but never the whole way through so I didn't exactly know what to expect. I would give this movie a solid eight of ten for a few reasons. First of all the story, aside from I capturing the zeitgeist of post WWII, the story was well thought out but easy to follow. It didn't go so far as to become total propaganda, but it served as a humorous way of saying that the Americans were the good guys. Secondly the filming was well done aside from being in black and white, the key is that like the plot they kept it simple and only added detail where they most needed it. Thirdly, this movie is awesome because it perfectly sets the stage for what you get out of Hogans Heroes ( the following TV series that is far more comedic than the movie), a show I'm extremely familiar with and is close to my heart. To say the least I'm biased towards liking this movie, but it's definitely a movie worth liking.
