The Great Gatsby (Book to Film Review)
I chose to watch the Great Gatsby because it was again lurking on my iTunes wish list. I have also been involved in many dance-related goings on with this film's soundtrack. The producers of this film did not hold back with its size and intensity to make it as grand as Gatsby himself. It is crazy just to image how much it took to film just a single scene at one of Gatsby's party. When the camera zooms out, creating a long and busy shot, there are so many things to look at that you are not always sure where to look. As far as the acting in general, it was not the best but also not bad at all. I felt that Toby Maguire did a good job of capturing the subtle spirit of Nick Caraway although I often was bored with him and wanted to see more. The same goes for Carey Mulligan as Daisy; she captured the character as she is in the novel but I sometimes felt a sense of awkwardness from her that I cannot find a reason for. I am a fan of Leonardo DiCaprio and found his acting to be very good in this film, I just think he was a little too old to play the part of Jay Gatsby. The film is follows fairly closely to the novel, which we read in Heritage last year. I rate this film 7.5/10.
