Terry Gilliam's masterwork certainly does not disappoint. One thing even the detractors of this film can agree with is that the visuals of this film are stunning, especially the dream sequences. Based loosely off of Orwell's 1984, the film features an oppressive bureaucracy which Lowry, played by Jonathan Pryce, fights against upon meeting the woman from his dreams. The concrete architecture paired with the modern technology create a realistic depiction of a retro future society. The film is a black comedy, similar Gilliam's other films like Monty Python, which helps change theovie from 1984 through a lighter outlook. This film is a must-see and was very enjoyable while also standing up along side of 1984 as a critique of big government and a material-obsessed culture.
