R.I.P.D.

A comedy that isn't funny. An action film with terrible action sequences. This is R.I.P.D. The real disappointment of this film is not that the film itself is an unfunny MIB knockoff and is extremely confusing, it's that the film wastes some great talent in Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon, and Mary Louise Parker. Reynolds's voice over work reminds us how dark this period of his films was and how great the Deadpool voice over actually is. Bridges works with what he has and he is kind of fun to watch but his dialogue comes off as unfunny and a shadow of some of his best characters. The CGI is outrageous and the film does justify some of the dizzying camera rotations and work that the director utilizes. Even the sound fails, especially when Reynolds's character falls to his death with a slight thump instead of a resounding crack. The film fails on numerous levels but I mean what did we expect? You can probably count on one hand the number of great CGI action comedies there are. But yeah, it's pretty bad.
