Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

To be quite honest the only reason this movie gets a single star is on account of my own nostalgic prejudice. I was born and raised a Trekkie, having seen more than my share of Star Trek-related materials. I grew up watching William Shatner, Deforest Kelly,Leonard Nimoy and others with the utmost admiration, but this movie did in all respect I had for the characters they played. I knew Shatner had a reputation in other movies for overacting, but not to this degree. If they had just left him out of the movie all together it would have amounted to a solid 3/5.
Furthermore, another aspect of the film that degraded it was its use of early special effects. Midway through the film there is a scene that results in a bloodbath in zero gravity, thus resulting in globs of Klingon blood floating in midair. The result was terrible, but not nearly as bad as the hot pink splatters of Klingon that resulted from the gravity being restored, followed by the chancellor dying of a fatal wound that spurted out liquid that looked like rancid Pepto Bismol.
And lastly, the Klingons. In previous movies, Klingons had been given a specific look that maintained itself throughout various other well known Star trek series; but this all together was a direct deviation from that. The result, to a well seasoned Trekkie, appeared to be one of unprofessional costuming and makeup guided by people that didn't take into account the future of the series. In so doing, they degraded the entire image which the television show and previous movies had set before it.
In short, unless you're an avid Trekkie; save yourselves and do not watch this movie; it was better left in the undiscovered country.
 Live long and Prosper!!!
