Maverick (1994)

This western, but also comedy, plays on the many stereotypes I had regarding western movies in the first place.  It's got con artists, guns, poker, Native Americans, saloons, you name it.  All in all it was a pretty funny movie.  It wasn't anything spectacular, but at least I enjoyed it.  I've been bored far too many times but other, more serious westerns in the past, but this is acceptable.  The cinematography was nothing too amazing either, most of the scenes were basic mid shots, and the scenery was interesting, but the camera didn't do much to highlight it.  There were a lot of missed opportunities in regards to the cinematography, but not so much with the humor.  The characters were constantly at each other's throats trying to win the poker prize money or somehow get there first, so that even if there was no outside threat at least they had each other.  These interesting character provided the plot with a good amount of action and made the movie engaging.  A nice simple watch.
