The Wild, Wild West *cue dramatic music*

So over the weekend the movie I watched was “The Newton Boys” and I really enjoyed it.  With young Matthew McConaughey and a very 1920s feel to the movie, it really feels like you are living out this romanticized era.  This movie is based off the true story of the Newton Boys who are labeled the most successful bank robbers of all time.  This action crime western drama has it all: car chases, robberies, explosions, love triangles.  The movie begins in sort of a classic way with old wasted colors and the scratchy black and white feel like a typical old western film, it introduces the characters using the credits.  The cinematographer, Peter James uses this golden haze feel the entire movie, almost to over romanticize the bank robbers.  They are portrayed as the good guys, and they always end up on top, so by using this golden hue lighting, it creates a dream aspect that it is only an illusion.  Peter James also uses a lot of straightforward shots, as to not take away from the film.  For pure entertainment value I’d give this movie a 5.5/10.  I liked it but I probably wouldn’t watch it again.
