This week for western films I watched the movie Django
Unchained directed by Quinten Tarantino. The film is about a bounty hunter who
frees Django from a slave owner and now takes responsibility for Django’s life.
They hunt gangs as well as look for Django’s previous owners. Their focus then
turns to finding Django’s wife which takes them to a massive plantation named
Candy Land. The main theme of the film was between man and man (Django and the
owner of Candy Land) as well as a person search (for Django’s wife). The film contained
very odd film techniques as well as music choice. The film was very over the
top and all the camera techniques were very exaggerated. There were several
zoom-ins that were extremely noticeable yet Tarantino did it very purposely.
The music in the film was also very strange yet worked well for the “over the
top” film that it is. Another noticeable Tarantino moment in the film is the occasional
funny scene which in Django occurred before a KKK raid. Overall I loved the
film and its overblown Hollywood style and I would definitely watch it again. I
would give this film a 9 out of 10 and would recommend it to a friend.
