This week I reviewed Passion of the Christ. I watched the
movie once when it first came out when I was very young but I remembered almost
none of it. Watching the movie again really opened my eyes to why the movie was
so popular in the first place. So many people have known about the crucifixion
story and told how brutal it was but seeing it take place is a whole different
thing. Mel Gibson did a great job making the film extremely gory but not unnecessarily
so. All of the blood and gore was put into the movie to prove just how bad
Jesus’s crucifixion was. Some of the film techniques I noticed were moving
shots as well as varying camera angles. There were also several scenes where it
shows only Jesus’s upper body instead of his whole body. Along with this, one
of the techniques was to make the film so controversy that it really cannot be
ignored. The film shows a theme of Man vs Man with the people beating and
killing Jesus however, there was no battle because Jesus willingly accepts his
death. There also is an inside battle as Jesus prays and you can see
uncertainty when he is going to be carried away to be killed. Overall the film
was shocking and one not to be forgotten quickly. I would give it a 6 out of 10
because as much as I feel the idea behind the film is a good one, there was no
English in the movie and it was almost all brutal killing scenes. I would
however, recommend it to a friend if they had not already seen it.
