I miss the cheesy credit openers in the beginning of movies, they should bring those back. If I were to describe the perfect example of a western movie it would have to be this one. From the shootouts, to the famous music, and every close-up in between, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is definitely a must watch just to understand what a true western is like. Known for its satirical approach to the idea of western culture, this movie is subtly funny based on the moments of complete overdue of violence and dramatic music. The camera angles went in between extreme close ups and sweeping long shots. There was not a lot of talking and when there was it was very vague and distant, like the story involving the chicken. The storyline took place involving each of the cowboys wanting one thing: gold. This film also put into perspective how much you could get away with back then. Each town was completely separate from each other so the cowboys could pull the same trick multiple times. The special effects were cheesy but I'm sure were advanced in the time when the movie was filmed. Overall I think this movie is famous because of its famous music themes, and stares between characters that last five minutes before a giant shootout match more so than being a fantastic movie, but it's still pretty good.
When watching this movie I couldn't help but think that it reminded me of Tarantino's work, I think specifically Pulp Fiction. I looked it up to find that it is one of Tarantino's favorite movies. I think it has influenced him a lot.
I rate this a 7/10. It wasn't something I would not choose to particularly watch again, but I think any western genre fan would really enjoy it.
